A baccalaureate degree in civil or mechanical engineering or related disciplines with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate engineering coursework is required. Pre-program requirements may be specified in case the Bachelor's degree is in a discipline different to which the candidate is applying.

TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for international students without prior U.S. degrees. The minimum required score is 79 (TOEFL) or 6.0 (IELTS)

Students can choose to specialize their program of study in any of the four following areas: biomechanics, materials and manufacturing, thermal and fluid sciences, and robotics and controls. This program has a thesis option, non-thesis option and entrepreneurship option. Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering fields according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
