Applicants are required to submit one transcript from each post-secondary institution attended, including any study abroad or exchange programs, summer programs, and non-degree work and extension programs. Applicants may submit unofficial copies of transcripts while applying for admission. However, admitted students are required to submit official transcripts in order to enroll at UHM.
A master’s degree with a GPA of 3.0 or better
TOEFL iBT - Minimum score 61 TOEFL iBT
IELTS- Minimum score is 6.00 for the IELTS Academic overall band test results.

The Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at the University of Hawaii at Mnoa is a research-active department focused on fostering an active high-tech industry in the beautiful island paradise of Hawaii. Historically, the department was instrumental in developing the well-known ALOHA network, the first wireless packet network, in the 1970s. <br><br>Currently, the innovative research conducted in the department is organized into five research tracks: 1) biomedical engineering, 2) computer engineering, 3) electrophysics, 4) power & energy, and 5) systems & data science<br>Our faculty include six IEEE Fellows and four NSF Career/Presidential Young Investigator awardees. Several faculty also have commercialized their research with startup companies. Faculty members in the department have received numerous best paper awards in journals and conference proceedings. One faculty member won the University of Hawaii's Regent's Medal for Excellence in Research award, and three faculty members won the University of Hawaii's Regent's Medal for Excellence in Teaching award.<br>We offer both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees with funding opportunities available to qualified applicants. Large programs obtained by the department include NSF Center for Science of Information (25M), NSF EPSCoR Ike Wai (20M), and NSF CyberCorps Scholarship for Service (5M), among others. <br>Additional resources at the University of Hawaii at Mnoa include a high-performance computing cluster, the Hawaii Advanced Wireless Technologies Institute (HAWTI), a world-leading research institute in earth, ocean, and planetary sciences, a research-active Cancer Center, and our beautiful sunsets and beaches.
