Transcripts: A complete application must include official, up-to-date transcripts for all current and previous study the applicant has listed in the Academic Background section of the application. Acceptable methods for submitting transcripts:
Transcripts can be uploaded to the online application, as PDF files. The transcripts must be scanned (black and white recommended) and saved as a PDF file, and uploaded successfully. Complete instructions are available to applicants on the Transcript Upload section of the online application.
If a transcript or transcripts cannot be successfully uploaded to the online application, applicants are responsible for ensuring that an official transcript or transcripts of all current and previous university-level studies are sent to the School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs by all universities previously attended. All hard copy transcripts received as part of an application for admission must be received in sealed envelopes.
Letters of Recommendation: For applicants to research programs, two current academic recommendations are required from professors under whom the applicant has recently studied. It is recognized that certain applicants to some programs may have difficulty obtaining academic references and that it may be more appropriate to get references from professionals or supervisors. In such cases, references from other sources containing information acceptable to the Department/Program or School and the School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs may be considered. However, all effort should be made to include academic recommendations.

TOEFL iBT - 88 overall: 24 Writing, 22 Speaking, 22 Reading, 20 Listening

In the doctoral program, students are required to pass a comprehensive qualifying examination in the geological sciences. The PhD program can be under the Engineering Council or the Science Council. The Engineering program consists of four term-length courses plus a thesis. The Science program consists of a thesis only as Science Council does not specify any course requirements, although the supervisor or comprehensive exam committee may specify certain mandatory courses in support of the thesis.<br><br>The Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering provides opportunities for advanced studies and research in the Earth Sciences. Faculty interests span disciplines in geology, geochemistry and geoengineering often in a multi-disciplinary fashion and including applications to economic and environmental problems. With high-tech geochemistry and geophysics labs, geomechanics computing tools, and Queen's Facility forIsotope Research lab to work in, our students have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge geoscience and geoengineering research.As well, students collaborate with industrial partners, government laboratories and surveys, and academic institutions worldwide, and engage in extensive fieldwork on six continents, making our program truly a world-class experience. Students can avail opportunities to collaborate with other departments at Queen's, including the GeoEngineering Centre at Queen's & RMC, Mining, Environmental Studies, and Civil Engineering.
