You will need three letters of recommendation from people who can evaluate your potential to succeed in graduate studies. Letter writers may use the UF Letter of Recommendation Form (PDF), use of this form is optional. Letters may be submitted online or emailed to Graduate Program Assistant: Diana Adams
You must include a complete and up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV) or r'sum as part of your application. Pursuant to Florida Statute, your application requires the inclusion of all post-high school education and employment, as well as information about ongoing international affiliations and research funding. Please ensure this information is included in your curriculum vitae or r'sum.
Submit only one two-page personal essay describing your reasons for undertaking graduate study in Earth sciences, your planned area of research, relevant previous experiences, and future career plans. Please include the names of any faculty contacts in our Department.
Submission of scores of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)is not required for admission to the Geological Sciences Graduate Program.
Order official transcripts from all your prior undergraduate and graduate school(s) and have them sent to the University of Florida Office of Admissions. If you are attending a foreign university, you must submit transcripts and degree/diploma statement(s) both in the native language and with an official English translation (if applicable).
A recognized baccalaureate, graduate or professional degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution.
Applicants with a bachelor's degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0), calculated from all grades and credits after the semester where the applicant reached 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours is required. For applicants from countries where English is not the ofcial language, a minimum score on one of these English Language Skills tests, IELTS - 6.0,TOEFL IBT- 80, PBT- 550.

The Department of Geological Sciences is composed of a group of internationally recognized faculty, graduate students, and dedicated support staff. Faculty and students in the Department of Geological Sciences are involved in exciting and groundbreaking research projects throughout the world and in Florida. The Department houses world-class analytical and computing facilities for research and teaching. The Department has identified six primary areas of emphasis in its research and teaching programs: environmental geology and hydrology, paleoclimatology, tectonophysics, geochemistry and mineralogy/petrology, marine and coastal geology, and paleomagnetism. The Department has collaborative, interdisciplinary programs of study and research with the Florida Museum of Natural History, the Center for Wetlands Research, the Land Use and Environmental Change Institute (L.U.E.C.I.), the Florida Climate Institute, and the University of Florida Water Institute. The Department of Geological Sciences offers programs leading to the Master of Science (thesis), the Master of Science in Teaching (nonthesis), and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees in geology.
