Admission to the PhD program does not require that the student already hold a Master’s degree. Students whose ultimate goal is to earn a PhD are advised to apply directly to this program. Students holding BS degrees in chemistry or other science fields who seek to obtain an advanced degree in chemical engineering are encouraged to participate in the conversion program. This program allows such students to obtain chemical engineering advanced degrees with minimal remedial coursework..

A grade point average equivalent to a U.S. grade of “B” or better is required. The WSU Graduate School uses a 4-point scale format which indicates a 3.00 = B. The minimum acceptable IELTS score is 7. TOEFL pbt: 560, TOEFL ibt: 80.

Through the Voiland School, students may earn either a Master of Science (MS) or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Engineering. Within the Chemical Engineering program, we specialize in the development of sustainable energy solutions, understanding environmental systems, and developing systems and devices to improve the health of individuals everywhere. Students may receive chemical engineering degrees working with faculty in Pullman or on the TriCities campus, including adjunct faculty whose primary appointment is elsewhere.
