GRE® revised General Test
3 letters of recommendation
Personal statement or essay
Statement of purpose - This should be a short letter addressed to the Admissions Committee. It should state your reason for pursuing the intended degree, what relevant experience you already have, and what experience you hope to gain by completing the degree.
Curriculum Vitae - This is an extended version of your resume. It should provide more information on your studies and experiences, and support your statement of purpose.
Three letters of recommendation - These should come from individuals who could provide insight on your readiness and ability to successfully complete your graduate studies (e.g. faculty members, technical supervisors, or other individuals from the field in which you wish to pursue the degree). Within the online application you will be required to input the email addresses of your references and the system will automatically send the letter of recommendation request to each of them.
Test scores
GRE is not required for this program.
International applicants from non-English speaking countries (or who didn't complete prior degrees with English as language of instruction) must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores. The minimum scores accepted for TOEFL and IELTS are 80 and 6.5, respectively. Applicants with lower scores may be considered for the Program in Intensive English.
Transcript(s) - Your transcripts must be included in your application. GPA over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is expected. Official transcripts are not required until admissions. If your undergraduate degree will not post until after your application is submitted, please send an email at egrmasters@nau.edu to let us know when you will send the official transcript with your degree posted
The minimum English proficiency scores for most programs are: 80 (TOEFL iBT) , IELTS- 6.5
Applicants must have earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 out of a 4.0 scale for their bachelor's degree to be considered for regular admission.

Mechanical Engineering is a broad field that is vital to many industries. Applying mathematics and physics to design, analyze and build mechanical components and systems like automobiles, power plants, robots, and spacecraft are just some of the applications of this degree. Our program prepares you for professional practice with a broad, applied education across two specializations in Mechanical Engineering: thermal-fluid sciences and solid mechanics. You will have the opportunity to enhance and/or develop the skills, knowledge, and understanding that are critical to today's practicing engineers. The MEng in mechanical engineering trains students to become engineers who are capable of finding solutions to complex mechanical and interdisciplinary engineering problems. This program is designed for students with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related field. Students in this program will have the opportunity to take courses and perform a practice-oriented design project in topics ranging from renewable energy to smart materials and structures to biomechanics to robotics. Students will be trained in advanced applied mathematics, computational tools in engineering, evaluating of the literature in mechanical engineering, designing complex mechanical engineering systems or components, and communicating mechanical engineering theories, methodologies, and solutions. Graduates of this program will be well prepared to work in a broad range of industries, including but not limited to aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, biomedical, etc., or pursue higher education.
