The concentration in energy and sustainability allows mechanical engineers to study up-to-date technologies in non-renewable and renewable energy production. Students will have the opportunity to take courses in building energy management, energy conversion, nuclear power and renewable energy technology. The students in the program study the traditional mechanical engineering course, however, they focus their upper level electives in courses such as, HVAC, Energy Conversion, Intro to Nuclear Power, Solar Energy Design, Thermal Design and their senior Capstone Project will be focused on energy topics. Teaching, research and service efforts within our department encompass the areas of specialization in Acoustics, Manufacturing, Energy and Sustainable Design, Turbomachinery, and Acoustical Engineering and Music. Our continued attention to small class sizes allows for significant levels of personal attention and one-on-one mentoring of our students, and an easier connection between students and professors, as well as an ideal environment for student-to-student collaboration with substantial focus on engineering design and communication skills in preparation of young careers in industry, consulting and research.<br><br>We pride ourselves in providing the right offerings for a successful college experience complemented with currency in course content, detail in structured academic advising, a full range of science activities/competitions and professional engineering clubs.
