To qualify for admission to the PhD in Mechanical Engineering program, you must normally have completed a master's-level degree in Engineering.
You must have a four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized college or university with a minimum B average (3.0) in the last 60 credit hours or equivalent.
Some departments may have higher standards and additional criteria. These may include confirmation from a prospective supervisor, admissions tests such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT), and a statement of research interests or experience in the field

The graduate program in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manitoba is well-recognized amongst many other Mechanical Engineering Departments across and outside Canada. We are proud to deliver a world-class graduate experience leading to degrees in Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.). All programs are led by well-established professors and adjunct professors engaged in local industry with interlocking specialization. Our graduate students have access to state of-the-art research facilities. We value the importance of challenging and relevant course work, effective supervision and high quality meaningful research. We continuously strive to prepare our students for many specialized career choices and to increase impact of our research programs on the local and global communities through a combined and coordinated effort by faculty members, technical support staff and graduate students. Our exciting research concentrations include Advanced Manufacturing, Automation and Control, Production and Operations Research, Materials Engineering and Processing, Composite Materials, Combustion, Energy, Aerospace, Fluid Mechanics, Multi-Phase Systems, Thermo-Fluids, Nonlinear Dynamic Systems, Biomechanics, Tele-Robotics, Fluid Power Systems, Structures, Nondestructive Testing and Diagnosis, Vibrations and Acoustics, Nano-Mechanics, and Health Care Management. Due to the inter-disciplinary nature of many of our research programs, students will have the opportunity to benefit from a selection of graduate courses offered by other departments across the university, as well as co-supervision by academics across the Faculty of Engineering and Science. The Ph.D. option consists of coursework and a substantial research component.<br><br>Expected Duration - 4 years.
