Unofficial copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended should be uploaded into the AY system. For foreign institutions, include transcripts in the original language, plus official English translations if the original language is not English. Official Transcripts for Accepted Students Upon admmission to the program, official transcripts of admitted students need to be sent directly from the academic institutions to the Graduate School Admissions Office (not the Department) GRE Scores. Test scores may be self reported on your AY application. However, upon admission to the program, an official report of scores from the General Test of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) should be sent directly by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), We will require at least three letters of personal reference from course instructors, research supervisors, or employers who are familiar with your abilities and performance. Personal Statement. A one-page personal statement (approximately 500 words) outlining your background, research interests (including possible faculty research advisors), goals, and reasons for applying to our graduate program. Potential Areas of Specialization. Applicants should choose among the research tracks offered, review our research page , and look up individual faculty members by research interests in the Directory of Faculty by Research Areas. Applicants must have received, prior to commencing graduate study, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute, college, or university. Although no single field of undergraduate specialization is required, applicants to the program must have a thorough undergraduate background in engineering and life sciences. All aspects of an application will be seriously considered during the evaluation process. However, typically successful applicants have a cumulative GPA that meets or exceeds ~3.5 and GRE scores of ~156 verbal, ~165 quantitative, ~4 analytical writing. International students should have a minimum TOEFL score of 575 on the paper-based test, 232 on the computer-based test, or 90 on internet-based test. Students with TOEFL scores below 600 (paper-based test), 250 (computer-based test), or 100 (internet-based test) may be required to enroll in English classes. The Department will also accept a minimum 7.5 IELTS score in lieu of the TOEFL. At least a 3.0 or higher undergraduate weighted mean GPA on a 4.0 scale. If the undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, a GPA will be calculated for the last two years attended if schooling was done at a foreign institution, and based upon the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) if the student attended a U.S. institution. A bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited U.S. college or university or from an institution recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education in their home country. The Office of International Admissions will determine if applicants with international degrees meet the Graduate School's requirement of a recognized bachelor's degree. The MS-MBA Dual Degree Program enables you to earn both a two-year Master of Business degree and a one-year Master of Science degree in Bioengineering in as little as two years. The MS Bioengineering/MBA combines students? applied interests and training in Engineering with the comprehensive business sense developed in a full-time MBA program. MS BIOEN/MBA graduates will be, with appropriate experience, qualified to direct or manage the transition of new products, processes and systems from the laboratory to the board room. MBA/MS students develop this ability through access to recognized academic programs/faculty, leading edge research centers and substantive participation in commercialization processes available only at the University of Utah. It is the application of coursework in the actual research/development/commercialization process that develops professionals skilled at effectively (1) envisioning technology driven solutions, (2) evaluating those solutions as potential new products or processes, (3) facilitating their rapid instantiation, commercialization and use of in the most appropriate manner, and (4) directing new knowledge development.
