The admissions committee for Biomedical Engineering reviews GRE scores, performance at previous institutions/universities, at least two letters of recommendation, and a personal statement. These students are encouraged to take prerequisite courses in areas they lack. These courses include: Cell Biology, Organic Chemistry, Physiology and Differential Equations. A background is strongly recommended in: one year in undergraduate chemistry, biochemistry and/or organic chemistry, prior coursework in general biology and/or cell biology, physics, and interest in integrative studies of biological interfaces. A background in differential, integral and multivariable calculus, differential equations, undergraduate controls, and design of mechanisms and level IV statistics are also recommended.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The minimum TOEFL scores are 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based).
The minimum IBT internet-based TOEFL scores: writing 22, speaking 23, reading 21, listening 17.
An acceptable IELTS score is bandwidth 7.

The goal of the Biomedical Engineering concentration is to train the next generation of investigators and practitioners who will be capable of developing new scientific approaches, strategies, novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools for the healthcare of tomorrow. The following areas of study are available: Molecular, cellular, nanosystems bioengineering, biomaterials and tissue engineering, biomechanics and rehabilitation engineering, physiologic systems and bioinstrumentation, computational bioengineering and biomedical imaging. Rutgers location is in close proximity to biomedical device, imaging, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology companies, and makes the MBS degree highly attractive to students interested in these areas. A Master of Business and Science degree with a concentration in biomedical engineering will provide an ideal combination for individuals interested in a specialized field and its practical application to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
