All applicants to SJSU must meet all of the following admission requirements to enroll at SJSU.
Earn the equivalent of a U.S. 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or an average of B grades.
Submit partial official secondary school (high school) transcripts and final transcripts.
IELTS - 6.5, TOEFL - 80, TOEFL - 550,
GPA -3.00 or greater

The Department of Biomedical Engineering is home to dynamic BS and MS engineering programs. Being located in the heart of Silicon Valley, we have developed strong ties and long-standing collaborations with the wide variety of biomedical engineering industries that surround us. These include the spectrum from mature companies that are household names enjoying world-wide recognition to startups that are at the brink of the next revolution in technology. The reputation of our educational programs as providing a unique practical approach built on a strong academic foundation continues to attract students. The Biomedical Engineering Bachelor of Science degree program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.<br><br>Biomedical engineering is an inherently interdisciplinary field that lies at the intersection of engineering and the biological and health sciences. Biomedical engineers use the principles of engineering to develop solutions for a wide variety of products and technologies that improve the quality of life. Students majoring in biomedical engineering will have the satisfaction of being actively engaged in a discipline that has human health and welfare as its primary focus.<br><br>The mission of the Biomedical Engineering Department is to be a recognized leader in translational biomedical research, to provide hands-on education focused on solving real world biomedical problems, and to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the service of human well-being.<br><br>The BS and MS Biomedical Engineering programs have been designed, in consultation with potential employers, to prepare graduates for the wide variety of emerging careers in biomedical devices, bioelectronics and instrumentation, imaging, bioinformatics, and manufacturing, among others. The coursework prepares students to function effectively in a U.S. Food & Drug Administration-regulated environment. These programs also promote the development of soft skills, such as oral and written communication, and teamwork, that are necessary for professional success and lifelong learning in the global marketplace. The ability to address and deal with ethical issues, which are of paramount importance in biomedical engineering, is also cultivated, and communications skills are integrated into the classes throughout the curriculum.
