Post-Master's Subplan
The applicant to this subplan must have a regionally accredited Master of Science in Engineering degree or equivalent with a major in civil engineering or a closely allied field. Students with non-engineering backgrounds will be required to complete a set of coursework requirements that will ensure successful completion of the Ph.D. specialization.
A minimum post-baccalaureate GPA of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale (4.00=A) or equivalent is required for admission.
The faculty in the speciality area that the applicant applied to and the Graduate Coordinator make all the final decisions after the review of the applicant's records and admissions information.
Post-Bachelor's Subplan
The applicant to this subplan must have earned a regionally accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree or equivalent with a major in civil engineering or a closely allied field.
A minimum baccalaureate overall GPA of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale (4.00=A) and GPA of 3.5 for the last 60 credits is required for admission.
Transcripts - One transcript from every post-secondary institution the applicant has attended (regardless of whether a degree or credential was earned), showing all coursework, extension and correspondence work, any degrees earned, and the dates that those degrees were awarded. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted as part of the application process. However, if an applicant is admitted, official transcripts will be required by the date specified on the Certificate of Admission. Transfer credits posted on another institution's transcript will not be accepted in lieu of the transcript itself. Only transcripts sent directly from the institution are considered official. Failure to disclose all coursework and/or degrees awarded will result in rescission of admission. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering & Construction (CEEC) at UNLV offers a number of areas of engineering leading to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) - Civil and Environmental Engineering. Specific areas of engineering that are currently available include Construction, Geotechnical, Structural, Transportation, and Water Resources/Environmental. The PhD degree in chosen area is awarded based on the scholarly contribution provided by the candidate in his/her area of research. It is expected that the PhD candidate should demonstrate in depth knowledge in the subject matter of his/her chosen area of expertise. PhD students should follow the graduate rules and milestones of the program mentioned in CEEC Graduate Student Handbook.<br><br>Learning Outcomes<br>The student learning outcomes are:<br><br>Demonstrate knowledge in the chosen area of their expertise (construction, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources/environmental).<br>Acquire and apply appropriate research methodology to solve contemporary engineering problems related to the area of their expertise.<br>Demonstrate an ability to generate, collect, compile, and interpret research data.<br>Demonstrate that the dissertation contributes new and significant knowledge towards the area of expertise.<br>Demonstrate technical communication skills.
