The student's POS, prepared in conference with and approved by the Graduate Adviser, must satisfy the following requirements:
Twenty-one units of course work:
A minimum of twelve units should be selected from one of the specialty areas listed below; in exceptional cases, this requirement may be waived at the discretion of the Graduate Adviser, provided the substitute course is in the College of Engineering and enhances a coherent program in a specific professional area.
For students from US universities a GPA of 2.85 is required. For students from universities outside the US, a 3.0 is the minimum. Exceptional students who have done very well in the GRE but have fell a little below these requirements may be considered for conditional admission. Applicants whose major education has been in a language other than English must score 550 or higher (using the paper version) or 80 or higher (using the Internet version) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or 6.5 or better on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
