国际学生入学条件
Students applying from a master's degree program must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher on work beyond the B.S. degree. BSEE and BSCPE applicants must have a degree from an institution of higher learning that is recognized by the ECE department and a GPA of at least 3.5 on the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate work.
Applicants must submit to the Graduate School the same application materials required for M.S. applicants, plus a one- or two-page discussion of career goals and proposed areas of study.
Completed applications are routed to faculty in the interest area most closely aligned with the applicant's desired field of specialization. Faculty in the interest area then make recommendations to the Admissions Director or Graduate Administrative Committee regarding admission into the Ph.D. program and possible financial support.
The complete application includes
Virginia Tech Graduate School on-line application form, nonrefundable application fee $75.00.
An up-to-date, electronic copy of all official transcript(s) must be submitted with your on-line application. Please do not mail your official transcript(s) to the Graduate School until you have received an offer of admission from Virginia Tech. (Note that the ECE department does not require an official copy of your transcript(s).
Three (3) letters of recommendation.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
This is not required for Virginia Tech undergraduate students earning a B.S. degree in ECE at Virginia Tech with a GPA of 3.5 or higher in their last 60 hours.
TOEFL or IELTS exam for applicants earning undergraduate or graduate degrees from non-English institutions.
A Resume and a Statement of Purpose submitted with the on-line application.
For admission in Fall 2019, we expect a minimum TOEFL score of 90 (IBT) or IELTS score of 6.5 for admission. Further, TOEFL scores of 20 or greater in Listening, Writing, Speaking, and Reading subsections are required. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test (PBT).Some departments may require higher minimum scores.

课程简介
Taking wearable computers to a whole new level ECE's pervasive computing researchers are developing electronic clothing with integrated technology for health monitoring, public safety, and the arts. ECE's pervasive computing researchers are working on projects that add computer intelligence to our everyday lives. One project is to develop a vest for roadside construction workers. The system will be able to evaluate threats from vehicles driving past (such as vehicles ignoring the cones), and the vest will warn the workers if a collision is about to occur. Another project involves an electronic-textile garment that is indistinguishable from regular clothing, but can automatically classify a patient's daily activities while taking physiological measurements. This clothing could be used to monitor patients with chronic illnesses and help detect health issues before they become crises. Their activity classifier uses a model of the user's body, allowing it to work without training the wearer, or drawing only from a list of pre-defined activities. The pervasive computing team is closely tied with the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology's (ICAT) Create Studio, which provides a variety of physical and electronic prototyping capabilities. There, researchers have developed a storyboarding tool to automatically create software for pervasive computing. This tool will allow interdisciplinary teams to prototype pervasive computing devices more rapidly by extracting information using tags, natural language processing, and storyboard frames.
