An earned Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, with essential undergraduate prerequisites in civil engineering satisfied. Graduates of curricula outside these program areas may be required to satisfy program prerequisites before full admission into the program.
A GPA of 2.8 or above from upper-division engineering classes.
Demonstrate English language proficiency (e.g., TOEFL score of >= 80 (iBT), or overall IELTS score of >= 6, or DuoLingo score of >= 115). The complete list of options for demonstrating English Language proficiency can be found on the CSULB international student webpage.
Submit a statement of purpose (with clear indication of the area of specialization).
Submit three (3) professional and/or academic letters of recommendation (Exception: This requirement is waived for applicants with a GPA greater than 3.0).
Have earned a grade point average of at least 2.5 on the last degree completed by the candidate or have attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 (A=4.0) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted.

The MSCE Geotechnical Engineering specialization requires completion of 30 units of graduate courses. Each student's program must satisfy all requirements of the university, college, and department, and contain the equivalent of 10 or more units of design, as determined by the department's graduate coordinator. During the first two weeks of the first semester as a CSULB graduate student, the student should schedule an advising appointment with the graduate coordinator, who will assign them to one of the Geotechnical specialization faculty.<br>The mission of the civil engineering graduate program is to provide a high-quality educational experience and the technical specialization required to become successful leaders in industry and the society, to engage students in innovative practical research and encourage them to pursue advanced degrees and lifelong learning. Our Civil Engineering program features several specialties: Structural, Geotechnical, Water/Environmental, Transportation and Construction Management.
