Admission to the master's degree program requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field such as biology, chemistry, math or physics. Other disciplines will be considered provided prerequisite courses in math, science and basic engineering are completed. Additionally, applicants should meet the following minimum standards:
GPA of 3.0
Combined verbal and quantitative GRE scores of 302
TOEFL or equivalent score of 550
For international applicants to both the M.S. and Ph.D. program: A minimum TOEFL of 79 or IELTS of 6.5

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is training Nevada's next generation of problem solvers.A well-rounded core curriculum combined with opportunities for students to specialize in a subfield of civil engineering gives our graduates both breadth and depth of engineering knowledge. Additionally, a departmental emphasis on creating life-long learners who can communicate about technical, social and ethical issues in engineering design prepares our graduates to work well in interdisciplinary and team environments.<br><br>The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Nevada, Reno is pleased to announce that graduate program requirements have been consolidated and streamlined allowing prospective M.S. students to complete their course work in 1 year. Both MS Plan A (thesis option) and MS Plan B (coursework option) require a minimum of 26 credits. These program modifications support technical specialization for early and mid-career individuals with minimal life and career disruption.<br>The master's degree programs offered in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering will prepare graduates to work as civil and environmental engineers in private practice or in the public sector. Graduates will have the necessary educational background to become licensed professional engineers as civil engineers or environmental engineers in accordance with the provisions of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).<br><br>Student Learning Outcomes:<br>an ability to apply engineering research and theory to advance the art, science, and practice of the discipline<br>an ability to design and conduct experiments as well as to analyze, interpret, apply, and disseminate the data<br>an understanding of research methodology
