This programme is very similar to that of the Aerospace Engineering degree programmes (H425 and H421) but also introduces elements of pilot studies for students interested in becoming pilots. In Year One, the Pilot studies module (based on the PPL ground school syllabus) complements the flight training programme of 20 hours which is mandatory. In Year Two, the Pilot studies module is based on the Air Transport Pilot's Licence (ATPL) ground school syllabus. Year One students study core engineering topics such as Structures, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Materials, Maths, Electronics and Management. The Year 1 Pilot Studies modules provides a first insight into this exciting career This, alongside general engineering skills such as technical drawing and communication is reinforced throughout the year via a design-build-test project where students are required to demonstrate their learning by creating an unmanned glider aircraft for use in a humanitarian mission.
