On successful completion of the PGCE, Design and Technology Associate Teachers (ATs) will have developed a thorough teaching and learning subject philosophy as well as an understanding of its wider role and potential to contribute towards the four purposes of the new curriculum. Successful ATs will understand that Design and Technology is a rigorous and practical subject. At its core, human centred principles and systematic iterative design will enable learners to create products andor services which solve real problems that are relevant and will guide learners to consider the needs and values of others, as well as their own. ATs will understand that Design and Technology will be the application of subject knowledge through drawing on principles and discoveries from other subjects such as mathematics, engineering, science and art. ATs will adopt an experiential model of learning, enabling learners to learn about Design and Technology and apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world context through contextualised challenges. Successful ATs will be competent in managing the D&T curriculum, be creative practitioners in their own right, as well as having the skills to develop the creativity of others. The Secondary PGCE programme is designed to provide you with a deep understanding of how children and adolescents learn, and equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to develop as a creative and innovative teacher. You will learn about adolescent’s development through the Secondary sector and be supported to become an excellent teacher. This PGCE with QTS is recognised across Wales and England and is often transferable further afield for entry into the teaching profession.
