Applicants to the EngD course will be established Engineers or Technologists in full-time employment. Ideally you will have at least 4 years of postgraduate industrial experience, and have reached a responsible technical position within the organisation. Typical candidates will be ambitious, seeking routes to achieve personal and company goals, and will have acknowledged that they require specialist skills and knowledge in research and management skills to operate at an executive level.
In addition, applicants with a recognised Master's Degree (MSc or MEng) relevant to the proposed area of research, accompanied with a developed detailed research plan, may be considered for direct entry to the EngD project phase. Alternative qualifications may be considered, which would normally require an interview. You could be permitted to transfer from the traditional PhD to the EngD if the above requirements are met.
Any applicant whose first language or language of previous University-level instruction is not English must normally demonstrate competence in English. This should be a score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

Our research focuses on providing innovative and practical solutions to industrial problems, with particularly strong industry-focused research in the oil and gas and renewable/sustainable energy sectors. This research is well recognised for transferring new technologies to industry through spin-out companies, patents and knowledge transfer partnerships. We develop original ideas through to applications, with particular emphasis on implementation for wealth creation and life-quality improvement.<br><br>We have several laboratory suites specifically designed for research and promote a dynamic environment without traditional discipline-related barriers, which has benefited the development of multi-disciplinary Research Groups which are Well Engineering, Multiphase Flow Modelling, Condition Monitoring, and Advanced Materials. The related subjects of Energy, Environment and Sustainability (EES) extend across a range of significant research activities within our Design & Technology Research subjects. The Engineering Doctorate (EngD) is an alternative to the traditional PhD, designed for those who want a career in the engineering industry.<br><br>We will support you to innovate and implement new ideas in practice, where you will gain the technical and business skills required to become a future leader.
