An earned Master's degree or equivalent with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 from a regionally accredited institution or one with equivalent standing.
Application materials must be submitted to the Graduate Student Services office and must include:
official transcripts for undergraduate and graduate work,
a personal statement outlining interest in the EES program and identifying a faculty advisor,
a demonstrated potential for success in research as indicated by prior experience and presented in resume or cv format,
three letters of recommendation, using the EES template.
Candidates are expected to hold a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Master of Science (M.S.) degree in chemistry, biology, geology, geography, or other relevant areas of science.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A score of 500 PBT/61 IBT is required for admission with stipulations or 550 PBT/79 IBT for regular admission.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Module: A score of 5.5 required for admission stipulations or 6.5 for regular admission.

The Earth and Ecosystem Science (EES) doctoral program at Central Michigan University provides advanced scientific training in interdisciplinary sciences. EES at CMU employs a systems-level approach to evaluate the physical, chemical, geological and biological structure and function of various natural environments. In this research-intensive degree program, students develop projects that investigate patterns and processes that regulate environmental variations across a range of temporal and spatial scales.The EES doctoral program is research-intensive and each student will conduct research to earn his or her degree. Students are funded through a combination of research assistantships and teaching assistantships. Check with your preferred faculty mentor (see below) for potential funding opportunities.
