Academic Preparation. Successful students are prepared students and we want to make sure youre ready for the rigors of college-level work. We recommend:
4 years of English
3-4 years of math (through second year algebra or pre-calculus)
3 years of natural sciences (two or more with a lab component)
2 years of the same foreign language
Transcripts from all secondary and postsecondary schools attended or are attending including diplomas examination results mark sheets and certificates Unofficial transcripts and other academic documents are acceptable for admission decision making Uploaded documents will show as received only AFTER an admissions counselor has completed the evaluation.

Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL 71 iBT undergraduate.
TOEFL Essential 7 Undergraduate.
International English Language Testing System IELTS Academic 6.0 undergraduate.
Pearson Test of English Academic Module PTE 48 undergraduate.
International Baccalaureate, grade of 5 in English at the Higher Level.
General Certificate of Education - A grade of A B or C in English from one of the five British-based examining boards undergraduate.
Successful completion of ESL level 112.

Geophysics has a long history at Western Michigan University. Past research has been applied to petroleum exploration, ground water supply and contamination problems, mapping of the sub-bottom of near-shore Lake Michigan, developing custom GPR antennae, assisting in the mapping of glacial geology, assisting in archaeological research, and locating lost and abandoned water and monitor wells.<br><br>As a geophysics student at WMU, you will have numerous scholarship and endowment opportunities available to you, including those for general study, specific areas of study such as water quality, and endowments for students who will be pursuing teaching in geosciences.<br><br>You will have the unique opportunity to work with the Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education, which focuses on student training, basic and applied research, and continuing education and outreach programs in energy, natural resources and the environment. You can also gain valuable experience and build your professional network through registered student organizations such as the WMU Geology Club and the WMU chapter of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
