For admission to graduate study, an applicant must have a U.S. bachelor's degree or the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree prior to enrollment.
Transcripts and Degrees must be in English (all post-secondary education, including transcript keys).
Unofficial transcripts should be uploaded to your graduate application. The minimum requirement for admission consideration is the completion and award of a four year U.S. bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, by the time of planned enrollment.

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers the Ph.D. degree in a range of specialties, listed below. Interdisciplinary research takes place with other groups, including the Darrin Fresh Water Institute and the Departments of Biology, Physics, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Math and Computer Science, and Materials Science and Engineering. Candidates for the Ph.D. degree must fulfill the requirements of the Office of Graduate Education. Evidence of success in graduate-level study and research must be shown. There is no language requirement. A dissertation based on original research is required. Ongoing research is described on the department webpage. Applicants are encouraged to discuss current research topics with individual faculty members.<br><br>Our department offers the opportunity to learn from some of the most accomplished faculty and to work on some of the most exciting and significant projects in Earth Science. Alumni of our graduate program have gone on to prestigious positions in research science, industry, and academia. The PhD in Geology is flexible and can be focused on any of the broad disciplinary research areas of our faculty, including: Organic Geochemistry and Biogeochemistry, Earth System History and Paleoclimatology, Paleoceanography and Micropaleontology, Environmental Informatics, Geochemistry of the Earth's Interior, Metamorphic Petrology and Thermochemistry, Solid-Earth Geophysics
