Anthropology is the study of humans. Of course, scholars working in other disciplines also study humans: sociologists study human societies, medical researchers study human bodies, philosophers study human thought. Anthropologists draw on ideas and knowledge from all of these fields and then add their own particular perspective. As a StFX Anthropology student, you willlook at the'social world andask fundamental questions about the development and behaviour of human societies.Exceptional faculty members guide you tothink criticallyabout the development and behavior of human society, explore the wayhuman culturesdiffer, and explain what it is that makes humans different from other animals. <br><br>The challenge of advanced study in anthropology draws strong students to an Honours degree. Honours students take 60 credits of anthropology courses and complete a thesis. Students who plan to continue their academic work at the M.A. or Ph.D. levels and those who enjoy the subject and want to apply anthropological knowledge in other careers should consider the Honours program. The benefits of an Honours degree include: <br><br>A greater variety of courses and more in-depth study in anthropology. <br>Better integration into the program. <br>Contact with other Anthropology students. <br>One-on-one contact with one or more professors who act as advisors for your thesis project. <br>A degree that is more widely recognized than the Advanced Major and will carry more weight with prospective employers and graduate programs than the Major.
