To meet the minimum eligibility standards for graduate study at San Francisco State, an applicant must:

1.Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, or shall have completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by the appropriate campus authority,

2.be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended,

3.Have a 3.0 GPA or better in their earned undergraduate degree or the last 60-semester (90-quarter) units completed, or have earned a post-baccalaureate degree, and

4.Meet the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, including qualifying examinations, as appropriate campus authorities may prescribe. In unusual circumstances, a campus may make exceptions to these criteria.

It is also suitable for those seeking entry into Ph.D. programs in astronomy. <br>The department offers the Master of Science in Physics and the M.S. in Astronomy & Astrophysics. These programs serve students who seek advanced knowledge in physics or astronomy: for application in physics/astronomy related industries, for preparation to continue graduate work elsewhere towards the doctoral degree, for service as museum/planetarium docent or technical staff at a research institute, and for work leading to teaching credentials which require a master's degree.
