International students who have never attended a post-secondary education institution will apply as a freshman (first-year student), and must have the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma with an academic average equivalent to a B (3.0 or better on the U.S. 4-point grading system).
Students must submit complete official records for the secondary level of education and are strongly encouraged to submit ACT or SAT scores.
An applicant whose native language is not English and/or who has been educated outside of the U.S. in a country or province where English is not the only official language must demonstrate proof of English proficiency by submitting either a TOEFL or an IELTS score.

Our Undergraduate Program is for students wishing to major in Physics and Astronomy, Medical and Health Physics, or who would like to minor in Physics. The usual course of study includes Calculus, General Physics including laboratory experiments in the first year. In the second year, courses in differential equations, modern physics, mechanics are suggested. In your junior and senior years, you can choose an area in which to concentrate - Physics, Minor in Physics, Astronomy, Medical/Health Physics, Secondary Education or Second Discipline.<br><br>For those students who wish to pursue a second discipline concentration (LSU catalog):<br><br>In addition to the core physics courses, you will take 24 hours of classes outside of the department. The intent of the concentration is to have you undertake a thorough study of another academic field in addition to physics. Most often, these 24 hours are courses for a single major. The courses should be lecture or lecture plus lab format. The department requires that 12 of these hours be in 3000 or 4000 level courses, and 6 hours of the 12 must be at the 4000 level. The list of courses must be approved by the department, so if you are considering this concentration, you should consult the department to ensure your planned program is acceptable.
