The Master of Science in physics is designed for students interested in teaching or research. The department offers three specializations for the M.S.: applied physics, basic physics and physics teaching. Within these specializations students can work with faculty on thesis problems in the areas of condensed matter physics, elementary particles and fields, accelerator physics and physics education research. Whether you are looking for a teacher licensure program or a graduate degree to further your knowledge, you will study the fundamentals and interactions of matter as you develop your desired focus to create a unique program of study. A student pursuing the M.S. in physics must complete a minimum of 30 semester hours. All master's degree students are required to register for PHYS 798, Physics Seminar, each semester. Passage of proficiency examination with an option of course work in a related science substituted for one area of proficiency examination.
