Applicants to the doctoral degree program should have a bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or science and have minimum experience that includes the equivalent of a Computer Science and Engineering minor. Applicants should further meet the following minimum criteria and the materials for admission:

A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.25 if the applicant does not have an M.S. degree or a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 if the applicant has an M.S. degree.
A minimum TOEFL score of 79,PBT 550 Duolingo score of 105, or IELTS score of 6.5 for international applicants.
A one-page personal statement describing research interests and career goals. Candidates are expected to clearly indicate their research interests as well as the faculty members they are interested in working with.
Three letters of recommendation.

Our research focuses on developing systems that are able to perceive, understand and respond to the world around them. This area of research has a wide range of applications, from design optimization and behavior modeling to vision-based surveillance, assistive robotics, autonomous systems and advanced manufacturing.<br><br>Faculty members in the department have expertise in several areas relevant to intelligent systems, particularly in computer vision, robotics and evolutionary computing.<br><br> In computer vision, we investigate image and video segmentation, perceptual grouping, biometrics, object detection and tracking, activity and intent recognition.<br> In robotics and control systems, we investigate human-robot interaction, multi-robot control and collaboration, infrastructure inspection robotic systems, and human-robot collaboration.<br> In evolutionary computing, we investigate genetic algorithms and their applications in computer game AI, search, optimization and machine learning.
