Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an ever increasing role in helping individuals and organisations deal with new and exciting developments affecting today's society. Our BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence course will provide you with knowledge of computer science topics and specialist skills in artificial intelligence, opening the door to a range of careers. From day one, you will be immersed in an exciting, innovative environment where you will develop your theoretical and technical knowledge and skills which will be directly relatable to your future career. You will explore state of the art technologies, theories, concepts and research. You will gain specialist knowledge and experience in the development of intelligent systems. Topics will include, for example, computational intelligence, affective computing, intelligent robotics, machine learning techniques in computer vision, emotion recognition from facial expressions and body language, data and text mining, autonomous learning and medical imaging.<br><br>Here at Northumbria, we know how valuable work experience can be in terms of giving you a head start in your career so we enable you to gain real-world experience on a yearlong professional placement in your third year on this course. Previous computer science students have had the opportunity to go on a placement in blue chip companies such as Hewett Packard and GlaxoSmithKline and at CERN in Geneva. CERN has doubled the number of students it will take on placement, reflecting the respect and value placed on this degree by prestigious industry professionals. You will also have the opportunity to study abroad in your third year at a partner institution, enabling you to gain global perspective on your subject and boost your future career prospects. This course covers a broad range of computing specialisms and will open the door to a vast range of careers within this industry. We place a real emphasis on developing the transferable skills that will open doors to a range of careers in computer science. These include communication, analytical and problem solving skills, technical skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Upon graduating from this course, you can anticipate working in a wide range of private and public sector organisations in a job role such as a data scientist, AI programmer, AI games developer, consultant, software engineer, database developer, web developer and roles in software testing, computer networks and IT management. Graduates from Computer Science have gone on to work for companies such as Accenture, Hewlett-Packard, Nissan and British Airways.
