The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (Grades 4-8 Language Arts/Reading/Social Studies Concentration) program prepares students to pursue a career as a language arts, reading and/or social studies educator in a fourth through eight grade classroom setting. The minimum number of semester credit hours for the IDS degree with grades 4–8 Language Arts/Reading/Social Studies certification is 120, at least 39 of which must be at the upper-division level. Throughout this program, you'll explore how different disciplines approach inquiry, examine multiple styles of learning, and incorporate cultural diversity into your teaching. The knowledge and skills you'll pick up will enable you to become an effective educator and work with diverse learners across a variety of settings. UTSA is approved by the State Board for Educator Certification to recommend students for teaching certification in various baccalaureate degree areas.
