The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University offers thesis-based graduate programs leading to master of engineering (M.Eng.) and doctor of philosophy (PhD) degrees in process engineering. The focus of the programs is on research areas in processing and utilizing various natural resources to produce all types of high-value added products safely and sustainably.<br><br>Specifically, research in the Department of Process Engineering at Memorial covers the topics of chemical and biochemical conversion of natural resources (forestry, food processing, oil and gas, and mineral industries) into useful intermediate industrial chemicals and ultimately end products, green recovery of valuable metals from low grade ores, contaminant removal (desulfurization, deoxygentation etc.) from solid fuels, crude oil and natural gas, modeling, design, simulation and optimal control of complex reactions, separation and integrated reaction-separation processes, etc.<br><br>The M.Eng. program normally takes two years to complete and students are required to complete at least four courses, a seminar course and a thesis.
