国际学生入学条件

Applicants for a PhD in Physics should have a Master's degree in Physics. If your Master's is from another field within physics than the one you are interested in at Carleton, e.g. you are applying to particle physics from a different background, please go ahead and apply. Should our admissions committee consider you admissible and if we are able to identify a thesis supervisor, the committee will decide whether to offer you PhD admission with a requirement for extra courses, or whether to offer MSc admission instead.

Applicants for the PhD holding a master's degree in Physics, but whose undergraduate degree curriculum would have been considered insufficient for admission to the Carleton Physics MSc program, might not be sufficiently prepared for the Carleton PhD program. Such applicants may be asked to take additional courses to fill gaps in their preparation.

TOEFL iBT (including iBT Home Edition) - 86 (20 in reading and listening, 22 in speaking and writing)
IELTS (Academic) - 6.5 IELTS (minimum 6.0 in each band)

Our PhD programs in the Department of Physics focus on two fields of specialization: Particle Physics and Medical Physics. The specialization in medical physics is accredited by CAMPEP. We are a research-intensive department and the doctorate involves a substantial research project which builds on the courses taken. The location of the research depends on the specialization and the choice of thesis supervisor. The program is linked with the University of Ottawa through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Physics (OCIP) which allows both universities to offer a broad spectrum of physics programs that are complementary between the two campuses.
