Research degree such as Honours or Master's by thesis from a New Zealand university with an average grade of B+ or higher, an approved international equivalent, or other approved evidence of adequate training and ability. International applicants are expected to have equivalent qualifications to those required of New Zealand applicants: If you have a four-year Bachelor's degree graded in a four-point GPA system, you will need to have a GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0. , If you have a Bachelor's degree graded in the British system (including from India), you must have been awarded the degree with first or upper second-class Honours. Or you will need to be able to produce evidence to the satisfaction of the Dean, Wellington Faculty of Graduate Research, of other adequate training and the ability to proceed with the proposed course for the degree. The minimum requirements are: TOEFL 90 points on the internet-based test with a minimum of 20 in writing, or IELTS overall band of 6.5, no sub-score below 6

A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree involves original and sustained research, mentored by an academic supervisor. It's an opportunity to make new discoveries, address some of the big issues of our time, challenge yourself, and develop a mix of transferable and specialised skills. Take your understanding and skills to an expert level. Study the science behind computers in more detail, building on your undergraduate degree or your professional experience. You'll enhance your ability to think critically and creatively about concepts and techniques in computer science, network engineering and software engineering. Choose from a wide range of topics including machine learning, data mining, artificial intelligence agents, security engineering and app development. Or focus on software and study advanced courses in programming, software development, data warehousing and web engineering. You'll also have the opportunity to carry out independent research, gaining a deeper understanding of your area of interest. Master's students will complete a full research thesis graduating with an advanced level of professional competence and expertise in your research area. Taught by the School of Engineering and Computer Science, you'll work with and learn from experts who are internationally renowned in the field.
