课程简介
Acquire research skills from and be mentored by leading academics. You’ll critically assess contemporary practices and issues in your area of expertise, and have a framework for creating and synthesising evidence to advance your field and society. Research is a skill that is useful in any career as you learn how to critically assess current practices in your field of expertise, provide empirical evidence for any issues you identify, and propose and evaluate solutions to overcome these issues. The MCom will prepare you to undertake high-quality practice-oriented research in public and private-sector roles, or to continue your academic journey with PhD research.

Build on your degree and expand your knowledge of finance—how money is spent, how risk is managed and how markets work. Further your understanding of the principles of asset pricing and corporate finance. Develop your research abilities and graduate with the high level of oral and written communication skills expected of senior business leaders. Choose from an extensive range of topics including capital markets, corporate finance, derivatives, portfolio design and investments. You'll learn from academics with a wide range of research interests who have strong links to business, government and financial institutions in Wellington and beyond.

Take your Honours degree or Postgraduate Diploma to the next level with a Master of Commerce (MCom). You'll take an in-depth look at an issue through completing a research thesis, gaining advanced knowledge of your subject area and thorough training in independent research. Once complete, you'll have the tools and capabilities you need for a career in business or public policy. You'll also be able to apply for PhD study in New Zealand or overseas. This 120-point programme will take you 12 months to complete full time, or one and a half to two years part time. You must take at least 90 points of research. This means you'll complete a research thesis made up of a literature review, data collection and analysis, and your findings. A thesis is usually 30,000–40,000 words.
