The Department of Art, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, offers a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in Art. Within these degrees there are multiple tracks and emphasis areas to address more specialized study.The Bachelor of Art in Art: Art Education track is a four-year degree designed to provide a strong studio and art history background, while fulfilling the requirements for Arkansas licensure for the Art K-8 and Art 7-12 teaching areas. Art education courses prepare future certified art teachers in communicating and delivering art content to students. Distinct from other education courses at UALR, art education method courses are taught from the perspective and experience of an art educator. More than any other program in the state, UALR's BA art education degree comprises five art education method courses. These courses address: art education history, child and adolescent development, differentiated instruction, student motivation and classroom management, curriculum design, assessment, creativity, art history and art criticism approaches, educational policy as well as inclusion of special needs students in the art classroom.
