Study the civilizations and cultures of Africa, the Caribbean, North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and anywhere people of African descent reside. The Africana Studies bachelor's degree program is interdisciplinary and cross disciplinary, embracing anthropology, art, economics, history, religion, literature, psychology, music, criminal justice, biological sciences, geography, women's studies, communications, modern languages, political science and many other areas. Join UNC's Africana Studies program and discover a world of experiences. Our students have been invited to study in Istanbul at Turkey's top university. They?ve researched and presented findings on the Black community of Dearfield, located near Greeley. For those who are McNair Scholars, Africana Studies majors have presented research at undergraduate and professional conferences. Prepare to teach social studies to culturally diverse students at the middle and secondary levels. With an interdisciplinary focus that includes contributions and perspectives of people of African American origin, the Secondary Teaching emphasis offers valuable student teaching and field experiences through the UNC partner school program.
