The CSPA program offers several graduate certificates designed to enhance the knowledge and effectiveness of those employed in student affairs positions in higher education. Certificate courses may only be counted toward one certification. Any and all courses taken as a certificate student may subsequently be applied toward a master's degree (provided the course(s) meet all other Graduate School policies). Each certificate requires 18 credit hours, many of these hours are common to all CSPA Graduate certificates while others are unique to each. You will develop a foundation of knowledge concerning academic advising in educational organizations, understand the implications of academic advising on student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of the your educational program. Become familiar with a variety of advising techniques, relevant variables that affect the advising interaction, and issues that impact on the advising profession. Develop a conceptual understanding of the components of effective academic advising, such as organization and delivery of academic advising, Advising non-traditional and under-represented students, and understand ethical and legal implications and assessment approaches.
