Official transcript(s) from undergraduate study. All applicants must submit transcripts indicating completion of your undergraduate degree and the date conferred. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is expected for acceptance into our graduate programs.
Post-secondary academic transcripts. All applicants must submit official copies of all other post-secondary transcripts.
Transcript evaluation. For any school you attended that is outside of the United States, you must obtain and submit a transcript evaluation. Those academic transcripts must be evaluated by an agency approved by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. A list of agencies and their contacts may be found on the International Admissions page.
Statement of Purpose. Submit an essay of at least one typed page, but no longer than two pages, with your application. Please give your reasons for deciding to do graduate work in the field you have chosen. We request that you cover these points:
Letter of recommendation. Most programs require one letter of recommendation.
Test scores. Rivier University master's degree programs do not require G.R.E., G.M.A.T., or M.A.T. results for entry.
Accepted tests and minimum required scores are: Duolingo (100), TOEFL (61), IELTS (5.5).

Rivier offers the Master of Arts in Teaching Middle/Secondary English in two tracksone for current teachers and the other for career changers. For current teachers, this degree increases classroom competencies and offers advanced education theory specific to English/language arts classrooms. Prospective teachers will deepen their knowledge of literature, language, and writing, and develop teaching strategies and skills for classroom success. You will also receive preparation for certification to teach English/language arts in secondary grades 512. Current teachers may personalize the program to meet their goals and needs: choose electives in curriculum design and development, testing, exceptional learners, and more. Prospective teachers in the M.A. in Teaching Middle/Secondary English program get a solid foundation in classroom management and teaching methodologies to complement their subject area knowledge. In the M.A. in Teaching Middle/Secondary English program, you will: Become an effective educator and communicator Connect theory with practice for classroom success Develop your critical thinking and problem-solving skills
