Elementary education (K-5) is meant to encourage individuals to enter the teaching profession. It prepares students for leadership, teaching and service roles in public schools and other educational services. The elementary education curriculum is designed to provided graduates with the needed foundation of teaching skills based on the latest in instructional theory, coupled with the broad knowledge in reading and writing skills as well as content in math, science and history, needed to teach at the elementary level. Students in licensure programs also engage in extensive clinical experiences in public schools for hands-on training in pedagogy, professional collaboration and classroom management. Tennessee Tech also offers a 2 Plus 2 program in Elementary Education, K-5 Licensure. Our 2 plus 2 program allows you to complete your first 60 credit hours at your local community college, with courses conducted by Tech faculty, and then transfer to Tech to complete the remaining 60 credit hours.
