TOEFL: 550 minimum written or 76 minimum online, OR IELTS- 6.5 minimum overall score
The GRE requirement is temporarily waived.
Additional Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited institute of higher education
Three (3) years of P-12 teaching experience or its equivalent
A letter of intent describing why the applicant wishes to pursue a PhD in Curriculum Instruction including the applicants career goals the applicants prior experiences in education previous university degrees programs certificates or emphases related to literacy potential areas of focus in a literacy doctoral program potential research interests and any other information the applicant considers to be relevant to their admission
A current resume
A completed UW graduate application
Three recommendation letters from those who are knowledgeable of your intellect scholarly abilities teaching ability or other qualifications for doctoral study These letters typically would be former professors supervisors or administrators the portal will send a request to each of them after you enter their email addresses
Unofficial transcripts from all postsecondary institutions official copies should be sent to UW Admissions

The UW Ph.D. program in curriculum and instruction is designed for educators with a minimum of three years teaching experience who are looking to move into tenure-track academic positions and other roles that demand high-level teaching and research skills.<br><br>Offered online with a residency component, the UW curriculum and instruction program allows you to choose from among four concentrations while also making it possiblewhether you live here or abroadto satisfy many of your requirements at a distance. In addition there are face-to-face residency experiences in the program that will facilitate strong post-secondary teaching skills and mentoring for your research.<br><br>Alumni from UW's Ph.D. program in curriculum and development go on to distinguished careers as teachers and scholars who are making a profound difference through their work moving the field forward.
