The basic requirement for admission is a high school degree and a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale (or an 85% grade average or higher).
An official transcript (documentation of a student's permanent academic record including the courses that have been completed and the marks that have been received for those courses). If your school or national education department does not provide transcripts, please provide a certified record of the courses and examinations taken, this would include Government Examination certificates (such as GCSE-O Level, IGCSE, and ''A Level). You must submit official secondary/high school transcripts - in the original language and in a translated English version.
** The essay that is a required part of the SUNY Supplemental Application or the Common Application is acceptable. You may also use the SUNY International Applicant Essay form - form for your essay. You may choose any topic for your autobiographical essay.
*** A letter of recommendation from an academic teacher or school counselor.

The Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures offers undergraduate and graduate instruction. Undergraduate liberal arts majors are available in French and Spanish, concentrations in French and Spanish are also available for Early Childhood & Childhood Education (B-6) students. The undergraduate majors in French and Spanish require at least 33 credits in the major language above the intermediate level.Minors are offered in French, Italian Studies, German and Spanish. In addition, instruction is regularly offered in Arabic, Chinese (including Spoken Mandarin), Hebrew, Japanese, KiSwahili, and Portuguese. A number of courses in the literature and culture of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latin America, and Spain are offered in English. A major program is offered in French language, literature and culture for students in liberal arts or elementary and secondary education programs. Students are admitted to the major upon completion of Intermediate French or placement. A minor in French is also available.
