Studying history isnt about memorizing dates. It's about gaining insight into the way our world once worked and how that influences societies today. By understanding the past, youll be able to offer a clearer perspective on modern global issues. In addition to learning about general world and U.S. history, youll examine specific topics in depth, such as the Civil War, Medieval Europe, the Middle East, the Cold War, and women in history. Choose the ones that interest you most. International travel courses will allow you to explore histories at the sites of their creation. Youll also have the opportunity to participate in internships and engage in projects that will bring you to the archives, libraries, and other sources of primary data in Southern California. In Cal Lutheran's history courses, the faculty emphasizes the understanding of the diversity of human experience over time and encourages an appreciation of cross-cultural encounters. All history courses help to develop excellent research, writing, analytical and critical thinking skills. Students are also introduced to useful methods and the debates that surround the writing of history.
