The General plan is a three-year Bachelor of Arts degree without honours. The plan details are similar to a History Minor plan, except the students in a General plan are required to complete 90.0-units to complete their degree. Students have the option of upgrading a General degree to Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree and the details of the process and requirement are outlined in section 3 of this document. Please see the details of the History General plan below. The study of history will help you sharpen your skills of analysis, discussion, research, and writing - all while critically exploring the roots of contemporary issues throughout the world. Students of history at Queen’s can explore a broad menu of topics, as diverse as the Crusades, Slavery, and Race Relations, Indigenous History in the Americas, the Russian Revolution, 20th Century Canada, the Economic Development of Africa, and the Perception and Treatment of Women in North America. The History Department invites students of all academic disciplines to explore historical issues through the intellectual breadth of history courses offered at Queen’s. Our seminar-based program offers something hard to find these days — small classes where students and instructors discuss what they have read, what they think, and what they believe. With an emphasis on developing speaking, research and writing skills, a history degree provides a sound preparation for careers in education, law, public service, journalism, and business.
