The International Studies major promotes global understanding and lifelong learning through an international, intercultural, and interdisciplinary curriculum that broaden opportunities for graduates to pursue careers in the U.S. or abroad. It fosters understanding of world societies and global issues from many different disciplinary perspectives. Students in the major learn to understand and communicate with diverse communities at home and abroad, a foundation of work and life in the twenty-first century. International Studies offers introductory, intermediate, and advanced study of international and regional issues, including cultural diversity and norms, world history, geography of developed and developing societies, international relations, global economy, environmental concerns, conflict and war, human rights violations and solutions, and the expectations of global citizenship. The major helps students meet the challenges of communication in the global economy by requiring at least twelve credits of foreign language(s).

The major opens a wide variety of career paths, ranging from public service, diplomacy, management, and communications to the arts, community service, entrepreneurship, healthcare support, and teaching.
