The following course-specific admission requirements are mandatory and must be satisfied by all applicants. These requirements are in addition to or supersede the minimum requirements outlined within the Academic admission requirements band section below.
All applicants are required to satisfy non-academic criteria, in addition to satisfying academic entry criteria. Applicants' non-academic capabilities will be assessed based on completion of a Non-Academic Requirements for Teacher Entry (NARTE) online questionnaire.
One or more of the majors in this course has admission requirements. Refer to the major for more information.
All applicants must meet the academic admission requirements for this course. The indicative or guaranteed ATAR is as published (where applicable) or academic admission requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:
AQF Cert IV,
Successfully completed 0.25 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent),
Undergraduate Certificate,
Special Tertiary Admissions Test,
University Preparation Course,
Indigenous University Orientation Course,
Aboriginal University Readiness Assessment, or
Experience Based Entry Scheme.
All applicants are required to complete a practical test on their chosen instrument, and complete a short aural/theory test (except for Music Studies). It is desirable that all applicants have Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) Grade V level of performance, with equivalents considered.
International Baccalaureate Diploma - Minimum of 24 points (Minimum of 28 points for Law), consisting of aggregate from 3 higher level & 3 subsidiary level
International students must attain an IELTS Academic with an average level of 7.5 or more, across the four components of listening, speaking, reading and writing, no score below level 7.0 in any of these components, and a score of 8.0 or more in the components of speaking and listening. Internationally schooled applicants may also be required to meet this requirement.

Focuses on classroom music teaching. Students have the option to complete a minor in instrumental music teaching and conducting/ensemble direction, and can also undertake electives in primary and early childhood music teaching. The major is offered in conjunction with the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and students undertaking this major opt to specialise in either Classical, Jazz or Contemporary music. Under certain circumstances, students may undertake crossover units from other streams.<br><br>Learning Outcomes<br>Demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge in depth regarding the Australian curriculum and teaching strategies for secondary music education.<br>Review, analyse and synthesise knowledge of teaching strategies to plan for the content of music teaching.<br>Exercise critical thinking and judgement to plan and implement music programs for a range of students with diverse abilities and needs, and assess the outcomes.<br>Communicate knowledge and ideas clearly in both written and oral formats.<br>Demonstrate leadership, exercise professional judgement and collaborate to plan, problem solve and make decisions in music.<br>Adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts to create positive learning environments in music.<br>Critically reflect using accredited standards, mentor feedback and the ECA Code of Ethics to demonstrate responsibility and accountability and plan for continued collaborative and autonomous professional learning and development.
