Applicants must hold or be eligible for initial teacher certification.
We review all applications individually and holistically, but our expectation is that successful candidates for admission to any NYU Steinhardt MA program in teacher education will have a minimum 3.0 undergraduate grade point average. Special consideration may be granted to strong candidates with a GPA below 3.0.
You must have the equivalent of a regionally accredited four-year US bachelor's degree before beginning your studies at NYU Steinhardt to be considered for admission.

You will study modern mathematics, the teaching of mathematics, and current issues in education, with the option to take classes at NYU's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and complete a culminating project on a topic related to adolescent math education as you prepare for New York State professional teaching certification.Your curriculum combines core subjects in mathematics pedagogy, such as teaching data analysis, algebra, and geometry in Grades 712, with topical issues in mathematics education, including educational design for the web and issues of gender and ethnicity in mathematics education.Youll also learn strategies for teaching mathematics to students in middle and high school, curriculum development and learning assessment in secondary school mathematics, and approaches for adapting math curricula, assessments, and learning environments to meet the needs of students with disabilities in general education settings.
