The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is the home of over 30 faculty members and 80 graduate students. Amongst our faculty are 5 University Research Professors (the highest university rank) and a Canada Research Chair. Multiple members of our department have been recipients of Presidential awards for Research and Teaching. These levels of excellence have also been recognized globally, when we were ranked #267 (worldwide) in Mathematics in the 2024 U.S. News and World Report University Rankings.<br><br>PhD The PhD programs in Mathematics and in Statistics consist of graduate courses, a two-part comprehensive examination, and a thesis embodying the results of original research of a high calibre. Students are expected to complete the PhD degree requirements in three to four years.
