Master's degree in an appropriate area of study.
Students who have completed secondary schooling, an undergraduate program, or a graduate program at a recognized institution where the language of instruction is English will normally not require an English proficiency test. If the institution is located outside of Canada and/or the language of instruction is not clearly indicated on the official transcript, applicants are advised to provide a letter from their university stating the language of instruction.
TOEFL - Paper-based score of 550 or higher, or Internet-based with a score of 80 or higher.
IELTS - An average band score of 6.5 or higher on the academic test.
Official transcript(s) (must be submitted by post mail or courier)
An official record of courses and grades earned (i.e., a transcript, if such a document is issued by your university). Documents must be sent directly by the issuing university.
Certification of completion of degrees (if not noted on the transcript). Photocopies are not acceptable unless they have been certified by the appropriate university or legal official as true copies of the original documents.
Notarized English translations of all supporting documentation, including but not limited to, transcripts, certification of degree and diplomas. (This applies only to applicants who have completed programs at universities which issue documents in languages other than English or French.)Proof of proficiency in the English language. See below for acceptable forms of proof.
Two letters of appraisal, at least one of which must be from an academic.

The PhD programs in Mathematics and in Statistics consist of graduate courses, a two-part comprehensive examination, and a thesis embodying the results of original research of a high calibre. Students are expected to complete the PhD degree requirements in three to four years. Upon completion of the thesis, a final oral examination and defence of thesis must take place. Among the research areas studied by our faculty and graduate students are the following: Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computation, Analysis, Combinatorics, Topology, Applied Statistics, Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems, Mathematical Models and Modeling / Numerical Optimization, Algebra, Mathematical Physics, Mathematical Statistics, and Fluid Mechanics.
