A dual program candidate must complete the Graduate College, Law School and Special Education Ph.D. admission processes in order to matriculate. Successful completion of the first year of law school is a precondition to commencement of work on the Ph.D. program. A law school student may be admitted to the dual program by gaining admission to the Special Education Ph.D. program after successful completion of the first year of law school with the consent of both programs.
Students interested in the dual program should alert Graduate College admission personnel when commencing the admission process. Students interested in the Dual Degree Program should alert the Special Education Ph.D. Admissions Coordinator so that consultation on the admissions process can be initiated.
Transcripts - One transcript from every post-secondary institution the applicant has attended (regardless of whether a degree or credential was earned), showing all coursework, extension and correspondence work, any degrees earned, and the dates that those degrees were awarded. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted as part of the application process. However, if an applicant is admitted, official transcripts will be required by the date specified on the Certificate of Admission. Transfer credits posted on another institution's transcript will not be accepted in lieu of the transcript itself. Only transcripts sent directly from the institution are considered official. Failure to disclose all coursework and/or degrees awarded will result in rescission of admission. The dual Doctor of Philosophy - Special Education and Juris Doctor (Ph.D. and J.D.) program prepares participants to navigate the complex legal and educational issues involved in assisting children with special needs. Prospective students must apply for and be accepted to each program individually. To graduate, students must earn between 134-143 credit hours and complete a doctoral dissertation.<br><br>Learning Outcomes<br>Students who successfully complete a program at BSL will be able to demonstrate:<br><br>Legal and Law-Related Knowledge<br>Knowledge of specific areas or aspects of substantive law, legal theory, or legal procedure<br>Example: Acquiring knowledge of domestic / comparative / international / transnational legal doctrine and processes, jurisprudence, knowledge of legal theory, and statutory / regulatory law and processes.
