A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Unofficial transcripts showing a grade point average of B or better (3.0 on a 4.0 scale). Unofficial transcripts of all previous college work from each college or university previously attended must be uploaded with your application. Applicants recommended for admission will be required to submit final official transcripts to the Graduate College admissions office.
A two-page personal statement describing your experience working with children or youth who have disabilities and how you expect the Mild-Moderate MA program to improve your impact with children or youth with disabilities.
If you do not hold a teaching certificate, we require evidence of experience working with children or youth with disabilities. Reference to this experience may be included in your letters of recommendation.
Three professional letters of recommendation. We prefer letters from persons who can attest to your ability to do graduate level work and interact effectively with children and youth.
An interview with a program advisor. Your interview will provide you with valuable information about the program and give you an opportunity to ask questions about the program. Your interview may be conducted in person, by phone, or via teleconferencing.

Minimum IELTS: Composite score of 7 (no subject area below a 6)
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 79 iBT (or 60 on the revised PBT with no section score lower than 15). Individual MyBest scores must also be dated within 2 years of the enrollment term to be considered valid.

The Severe and Multiple Disabilities M.A. program leads to a master's degree and, with additional coursework and practicum experience, can lead to Arizona teacher certification in severe and profound disabilities. The program emphasizes inclusion practices and a functional versus developmental approach to the education of children and youth with severe and multiple disabilities. Students labeled multiply disabled or severely/profoundly disabled usually have the following characteristics: severe to profound mental retardation, severe physical disabilities, sensory impairments, learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, and health disorders. Prospective teachers in this program will be taught to effectively program for and work with students who have a wide range of severe and multiple disabilities and who represent the spectrum from early childhood to adulthood.<br>Careers<br>Special education teachers of students with severe and multiple disabilities meet the needs of their students by engaging in a wide variety of responsibilities. As a special education teacher, you will:<br>Provide academic instruction, Conduct educational assessments, Develop educational plans, Create behavior intervention plans, Consult with general education teachers, Coordinate educational meetings, Manage educational records, Meet with parents.
