For all students earning an undergraduate degree at Truman State University, the Masters of Arts in Education degree program for Special Education is direct admissions with the following gateways. Entering undergraduate students will be guaranteed admission in the MAE Special Education program provided they meet all the gateway requirements:

Academic plan on file in the Education Department.
Grade of B or higher in ED 393 and a P in ED 394.
Overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 prior to taking SED 608G.
Completed form submitted to Graduate Office.
After earning an undergraduate degree and meeting the gateways listed, the student will become a full-time graduate student in the MAE Special Education program. Applicants must have a 2.75 or higher (3.0 preferred) cumulative GPA, 3 letters of recommendation-one must demonstrate the individual's ability to work effectively with children in a classroom or related setting, a personal statement, and a resume. An interview may be required. Submit Official English Proficiency Scores: Truman requires a minimum overall score of:
• 79 for TOEFL (iBT)
• 6.0 for IELTS , TOEFL (550 or above on the paper-based TOEFL)

All prospective teachers enrolling in the professional program must complete a strong liberal arts and sciences baccalaureate degree. The mission of the Master of Arts in Education Program at Truman State University is to prepare reflective practitioners grounded in the liberal arts and sciences. Our practitioners are skilled in bridging theory and practice. They are informed by a well-developed understanding of content, pedagogy, learners, and learning environments. We believe the human condition can be bettered by teaching and learning rooted in caring, innovation, reflection, and research-based practice.
