When applying to the Counselor Education and Practice, Ph.D. program, you will need to submit several documents for review.
Online Application
Goals Statement (upload with the application, provide a 500-word statement (approximately 2 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font) in which you identify each of the following:
(a) why you desire a Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Practice from Georgia State University,
(b) identify faculty members you would like to work with.
Resume (upload with the application)
Three Letters of Recommendation (upload with the application)
Writing Sample (upload with the application)
Must have completed a master's degree in Counseling or closely related clinical field, applicants must have completed a minimum of 700-hour practicum or internship as part of their clinical training, and/or be licensed as a master's level clinician or certified as a rehabilitation counselor
Official Transcript(s): graduate degree required for admission
In addition, if English is not the primary language, official TOEFL or IETLS scores must be submitted to Georgia State University. TOEFL scores should be submitted using school code 5251 and IETLS scores can be submitted by selecting Georgia State University Graduate Admissions. Applicants must submit a minimum TOEFL score of 79 or a minimum IETLS score of 6.5 for graduate admission. Applicants who completed a degree within the United States, will not be required to take the English proficiency exam. Our Counselor Education and Practice Ph.D. is the degree program for you if you are interested in educating, training and supervising future clinical mental health, clinical rehabilitation or school counselors. This program is also for those interested in research, leadership and social justice in the counseling profession.<br><br>Our Ph.D. degree is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). This program nurtures students to generate their own research, critically enhance their counseling competencies and advance new skills in teaching and clinical supervision. Upon completion of the program, students teach and supervise in university settings, work in community agencies as clinicians and administrators and become directors of practice and research institutes.
